The web site is not and can never be a substitute for an expert medical advice for a sick person. The real doctor is often the one who is nearby and available. This site contains merely general information for public awareness and is not designed to solve specific diagnostic or treatment problems of any one individual.
The site essentially gives a third world perspective of the disease and its control. The information therefore may not be applicable to the rest of the world.
Since the purpose is not to write an authentic scientific research paper for the medical fraternity, the general information herein may not at times conform to the text book version.
The site is entirely based upon author’s film Teen Batein (1999), books – A Death Every Minute (2002), The Test of Time (2004) – and a Public Interest Litigation filed in Delhi High Court India (2007-2008).
During this one decade, the entire subject of TB has been painstakingly simplified by the author; technical jargon has largely been removed. The aim is to make a common man understand broadly the nuances of the disease (TB), offer him some thumb rules and nonspecific practical tips. Another aim is to exhort him to make educated assertion in his community in the management of the affairs of TB control – forever handled by a handful of powerful, elite individuals in higher social bracket – rarely exposed to the true agony of the disease.
In certain grey areas of TB-control, there are no easy answers today. Medicine is evolving. At times, the author’s stance may be different from or even contrary to the ongoing contemporary consensus, the policies of various government or non-government bodies. Further, the author has felt compelled to express in public domain some views/statements which may not be backed by sufficient scientific evidence and which may represent merely his gut feeling. It is possible that his perspective may in future be proved wrong. However, pros and cons of each controversy within Indian DOTS have been honestly and elaborately placed herein and the reader is advised to feel free to form his own opinion and at his own risk.
Readers are warned that they may find some pictures and real life tragedies disturbing.
The pictures and the material in the site in no way is intended to offend, degrade, ridicule or harm any one individual, family, organization, program or government. The real intention behind posting them is to somehow utilize the great tool of hindsight; to derive lessons from our collective past failures; to utilize the demonstrative value of needless human tragedies so as to mitigate the ongoing human suffering to whatever extent. After all, our race continues to suffer and die at the hands of this curable malady. Avoidably! The author or the foundation is in no position to take any responsibility for any idea or action that may be initiated based upon the information provided in this site and may lead to some kind of harm to someone. Besides, the reader is warned that the site may not be upgraded regularly and properly and as such some of the information may be outdated, unscientific, presumptive or wrong.
